  • Fire Headquarters was built to be "solar ready" for this purpose
  • Estimated year-one savings of $24,000 for the Fire Headquarters installation
  • Developer maintains responsibility for roof integrity and system maintenance

Under Article 39, Town Meeting granted the Select Board authority to lease portions of Town Hall and the Fire Headquarters for the installation of solar panels and battery storage systems. Town Administrator Nicholas Milano highlighted that the Fire Headquarters was specifically designed to be solar ready during its recent construction.

The discussion included concerns regarding the safety of battery storage and the potential for roof damage. Member Roxanne Musto questioned the impact on roof warranties and the responsibility for leak repairs. Milano responded that developers under Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) are responsible for maintenance and must ensure installations meet all existing roof warranties.

The primary focus of the initial project will be rooftop solar at the Fire Headquarters. The town expects to see significant savings on municipal energy costs, with Milano estimating approximately $24,000 in year-one savings for that facility alone.
