Article 8 proposes a significant exception to this year’s level service budget by authorizing the hiring of a dedicated IT professional for the Milton Police Department. While Town Meeting approved funding for police body cameras several years ago, the equipment has remained unused due to a lack of technical support staff to manage the data and hardware.

Warrant Committee Chair Jay Funling stated that both the Select Board and the Warrant Committee wholeheartedly support the new position. This will help with modern law enforcement demands and support the use of body cameras, Funling said. We can't use them until the police have a dedicated IT person to service them.
